WINTER?!

Um what since when did I have to wear my winter jacket am I the only one not okay with this. Luckily I got this beauty for my birthday to help me through these cold months to come:

So far it hasn't been taken taken to school as its strictly in the weekend-clothes category until its worn in a bit. A few other autumn favourites of mine which I am yet to purchase are:

Anything Sparkle and Fade makes me want to spend all of my Namibia-trip fundraising...

I have a tartan skirt in green/blue but this is definitely the nicest one I've seen.

Camo is one of the ugliest prints but theres something
about this mens t-shirt I may have to invest in it for pajamas.

This is hardly a catch-up post but it will have to do for now, A-levels are actually quite stressful you know. I might even start working in my free periods...

Tone it down.

Pale grays are easy for summer because they compliment just about anything.

Oriental Influence.

Fashion Week made it clear oriental designs will be featured in our summer wardrobe. Prada and Haider Ackermann have put a western twist on traditional oriental styles and patterns while Emilio Pucci used intricate oriental embellishment as a more glamourous approach to this trend.

Personally I feel the Prada show (Last 3 photos) did not execute this style as well as say, Gareth Pugh. the shapes were not complimented by the simplistic patterns. Though the idea of classical oriental designs being stripped down to the bare essentials could potentially be flawless, these outfits are too boxy and bold.

Lauryn Hill - Neurotic Society.

For me, Lauryn Hill set herself high standards and this single did not reach the level I would have hoped. Growing up listening to her music I was really looking forward to a song that could introduce her to a new generation, yet it's just left people like me and my parents reminiscing her old songs and more soulful sound. I can't help being off-put by the fact that she released it to pay off tax bills in the hope to avoid imprisonment. It takes away the depth and meaning that has been prominent in her other work.

Here are examples of her songs that I've grown knowing and appreciating:

I'd like to think when she's out of Jail she will produce a more sophisticated single, she will have three years to ponder life and crack out some remorseful lyrics.

Dr Marten Polley Shoes.

I've never been quite so in love with a pair of shoes in my entire life time. Having owned a pair of Dr Marten boots for years now, I never saw myself jumping onto the 'Dr Marten Sandals' bandwagon. Yet here I am, drooling over these simple, T-bar wonders. Being my typical self, I left the webpage up for days, hoping my mum would stumble across them and take pity. However as time passed, these beauties were snatched up quick and one day I saw the inevitable 'sold out' sign by size 7 (I have been cursed with man feet) before they disappeared from the face of the planet entirely.

However, when procrastinating you can find incredible amounts to do, so I spent a solid half an hour tracking these down. I found them on a questionable 'Scorpion Ladies Footwear' website along with some interesting styles of shoes I didn't fully understand in all honesty. As stock lessens I have been leaving the page up on my mum's laptop and subtly (which for me means in the least discreet way possible) bring it up because I am determined not to fail this time!

The Editors Market.

Picture this: A shop where the more you buy, the less it costs. That's an accurate summary of The Editors Market, an webstore I discovered in Singapore. The basic concept is that the more items you have in your basket, the bigger the discount you get at the checkout. Say a jumper costs 35 SGD (Singapore Dollars) and you have 3 items in your basket, the price might go down to 30 SGD. Then if you have 6 items, it would go down to 25 SGD. If you want the great prices but 6 items is too much, you can open a shared basket. This is where you and a friend put your finds into the same basket so you can enjoy the discount without buying a ridiculous amount.

You have the choice between brands such as Cheap Monday, UNIF and Wildfox, so you know you are getting good quality from reliable sources. I suppose the only down-side is shipment from Asia, but with all the money being saved you can afford to splash out on delivery. The Editors Market is basically my excuse to buy myself even more unnecessary clothes.

Summertime Sadness.

It looks as though the dark platte of autumn and winter trends is carrying through to the summer. Though a transition has been made from block fabrics to sheer, flowing materials, bringing a softer and lighter form into this season. Though such a monochromatic trend could potentially lead us to a mundane summer of darkness, designers are playing with textures to keep interest, while basic accessories and shoes compliment the extravagant detailing.

The textures and embellishment of the skirt with gold detailing
give the skirt a more delicate appearance.

The three dresses above are from the Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer collection. You can see the sheer materials and the variation of shapes and styles that really express the trends for summer, such as the metallic detailing.
Simplistic accessories like this compliment the busy outfits.
This is an old picture from 2009, it just shows that black is back.
